The Order of the Arrow’s production at the 2005 National Scout Jamboree is entitled 123 (or “Twelve Cubed”). It is the successor to the OA’s prior jamboree productions of Odyssey of the Law and Scoutopia.
123 represents an equation for life, a formula for values. It is the value obtained by applying to one’s life both the 12 points of the Scout Law and the 3 promises of the Scout Oath: a multiplication, if you will, which has an exponential effect upon that life.
We recognize the term “values” to have application in mathematical equations as well as ethical ones.
We begin this show in a laboratory, a lab for building a life. We explain our purpose as “exploring the ingredients and assembling the elements of character, of values”. In a world full of people who think stupid thoughts and do stupid things, there is hope…because there is something called character. Thus our search to discover character, for we believe it makes a boy whole.
But very shortly into this exploration we come to a realization, via audience interaction, that character isn’t hard and fast. You don’t find it in a kid’s home or backpack. You find it in his heart. You can’t touch it, smell it, taste it. It isn’t science. We’re looking in the wrong place.
We explore through creative, artistic, interactive endeavors
with the audience. We define character, values, and how to
be Twelve Cubed every day.![]()
